Presentations & Programs
Dr. Raijman discusses the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of digital cholangioscopy with the SpyGlass™ DS System, presents several case studies and presents a summary of abstracts presented at DDW® 2016.
Dr. Devereaux presents several case reports reporting on the key indications for cholangioscopy and how its use impacted patient care, procedural success and costs. In Part 2, he presents some of the recent clinical data being reported on cholangioscopy.
Prof. Neuhaus presents very early clinical data and case studies using the SpyGlass DS System at a symposium held during DDW 2015.
Dr. Pleskow shares results from early case studies using the SpyGlass DS System that changed patient management.
Dr. Neuhaus, Dr. Pleskow and Dr. Varadarajulu answer questions from the audience at the symposium on cholangioscopy using the new SpyGlass DS System
Video Case Studies
Common Bile Duct Stone Case Studies
Using the SpyGlass™ DS System, biliary stones are identified and removed, and targeted biopsies are performed where cholangiocarcinoma is suspected. Once a diagnosis of benign ductal cells is confirmed, a plastic stent is placed.
A 55-year-old patient underwent ERCP using cholangioscopy for removal of a difficult stone and a previously impacted basket.
A 46-year-old patient presented with cholangitis and despite the use of conventional therapies, the stones were unable to be extracted successfully and a plastic stent was placed. The patient returned 2 months later for an outpatient ERCP ...
A 68-year-old male developed obstructive jaundice due to a tightly impacted stone in the common bile duct. Electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL) is performed with a probe through a cholangioscope to fracture the stone.
A 54-year-old patient was referred for three large bile duct stones, all larger than 1.2cm. Previous extraction attempts and ERCP procedures had failed. Using the SpyGlass DS System, Dr. Sharma performed an ERCP procedure using cholangioscopy ...
A 69-year-old woman was treated at another endoscopy unit for choledocholithiasis.
Cystic Duct Stone/Mirizzi Syndrome Case Studies
A 57-year-old man presented to a referring hospital with right upper quadrant pain, fever and elevated liver chemistries.
A 72-year-old-female presented with post-laparoscopic cholecystectomy and underwent 2 failed ERCPs to remove a large biliary stone. A 10fr stent was placed and she returned 2 months later for an ERCP using cholangioscopy with EHL lithotripsy.
A 54-year-old with a history of Down Syndrome and pyloric stenosis presented with jaundice and abdominal pain.
A 58-year-old patient underwent 2 failed ERCP procedures in an attempt to remove an obstructing 8mm stone. The patient was then referred for an ERCP with cholangioscopy using the SpyGlass™ DS System.
Biliary Stricture Case Studies
After numerous attempts are made to remove a migrated stent in the CBD with various devices, the SpyGlass™ Retrieval Snare is utilized to snare the stent and successfully remove it.
A 32-year-old male was referred for evaluation after an abnormal MRCP. ERCP using cholangioscopy is performed and direct tissue sampling of the dominant stricture is conducted using SpyBite™ Biopsy Forceps.
Cholangioscopy is used to assess an indeterminant bile duct stricture. Targeted biopsies demonstrate infiltrating carcinoma suggestive of gallbladder origin.
In this case, the SpyGlass DS System is used to facilitate advanced detection and appropriate staging.
A 79-year-old man presented to his family practitioner with yellowing of the skin, dark urine, pruritus and progressive weight loss. MRCP revealed a mid-bile duct stricture.
Dr. Hawes demonstrates how to set up the new SpyGlass DS System and presents a case study that provided a definitive diagnosis for a patient.
Pancreatic Stricture Case Studies
A 70-year-old patient is evaluated for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) using cholangioscopy revealing a villous mass extending from the tail of the pancreas to the proximal head.
In this case, Dr. Sharma and Dr. Lowe use the SpyGlass™ DS System to evaluate local invasion of gallbladder cancer into the cystic duct stump and the common bile duct.
Written Case Studies & Articles
On initial admission, a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis showed interval progression of intra and extrahepatic biliary ductal dilation with heterogenicity enhancing soft tissue mass in the common bile duct at the level of the porta hepatis...
An 81-year-old female presented for acute onset fever, abdominal pain and jaundice secondary to acute cholangitis. Urgent ERCP with cholangiogram showed a dilated common bile duct (CBD) with a filling defect in the upper third of the main bile duct.
A 49-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with jaundice, dark urine and epigastric abdominal pain that had been worsening over the previous three weeks.
Physicians share feedback regarding the abstract data they presented at DDW 2016.
A 68-year-old Caucasian female with a past medical history of cholelithiasis presented to us with right upper quadrant pain and intermittent dark urine. A CT scan showed a thin walled cystic lesion encompassing almost the entire caudate ...
A 64-year-old female was diagnosed with a hilar mass, causing suspicion of cholangiocarcinoma. After undergoing 4 failed diagnostic tests, addition, cholangioscopy with biopsy using the SpyGlass™ DS System and SpyBite™ Biopsy Forceps was ...
An 81-year-old man with a history of recurrent choledocholithiasis presented to the hospital with cholangitis after undergoing 17 previous ERCPs. The patient had a large stone at the bifurcation of the biliary tree and attempts at mechanical ...
